Virtual Reality vs. Augmented Reality: Explained

There are mainly three types of reality ruling the modern world today, namely the Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed reality. People often confuse between the three mistaking one for the other, but there is a huge difference between the three.

Today we are going to deal majorly with two of the three virtual realities. To be more precise, the Virtual reality and augmented reality.

Both the Augmented and virtual reality have the capability to change your image of the word. But what makes the two realities so different? This is a frequently asked question that we are going to answer in the next few lines to come.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality has been crafted with the ability to transpose the user. It literally takes you to another place other than the actual reality via closed visor or googles.

Wikipedia explains Virtual reality (VR) as a computer technology that uses VR headsets to change physical space or multi -projected environment to stimulate a users’ physical presence in the virtual or imaginary environment.

VR has come a long way I believe by now you have encountered the Google Cardboard or the Samsung Gear. If you haven’t then you will be mesmerized of how far VR has grown. Putting a VR headset takes you through a whole different experience, blinding you from the actual world and expanding your senses in another. You might even find your self in the middle of the Pacific looking so mighty and accomplished, but that is the main of the VR.

Users of VR headset have reported to experience actual movement as they climb upstairs of travel in high speeds on a motorcycle. Things get very dramatic once you dive into the Virtual world.

Augmented Reality

On the other hand, Augmented reality is very different compared to the VR .since it takes the current reality and adds something to it. You are not shifted to another world it simply “augments” the current reality with clear visors.

A good example of an AR is one by the Oakland Medical Center Replacement Project. This AR has been designed to help workers to access project and documents. All one has to do is scan one of the QR codes with a smartphone and they have access to all the updated 3D BIM model.

Samsung is set to amaze the world with its screenless idea(monitorless glasses). Which can be connected to Android and iPhones via WIFI replacing screens used on the devices. However, Apple is also considering this new AR transformation. According to Tim Cook, Apple, CEO AR allows individuals to be present in the world as a subject in consideration.

Advantages of VR and AR

VR allows users to experience a world of their own imagination. Something they can not do in actual reality, like going into battle, shooting a gun in an open street or climbing the highest mountain in the world in minutes.

AR on the other gives you the freedom to alter your actual reality. You can transform your actual world to anything you like using add-ons. The users are not completely immersed in the game when playing, he or she can keep up with the actual world as well.

Technology is taking our experience to the next level. We don’t know what reality awaits us in the nearest future, but so far the results are outstanding.
